MENTAL HEALTH
WORKERS' INQUIRY
Vacancy: Administrative assistant for new psychotherapy practice.

The Red Clinic emerged from the Mental Health Workers’ Inquiry (MHWI). After organising a series of lectures and events with experts and professionals around the world, MHWI resolved to launch our own psychotherapy practice informed by radical politics, internationalism, and a desire to build workers’ power. We are still developing our theoretical and practical approach, and the project is at an early stage.
The Red Clinic is composed of practicing therapists and other professionals who are engaged in creating a practice built on critically interrogating the function of, and contradictions within, mental health services. Drawing on Marxist and other critical theories, we are developing a model for psychotherapy provision grounded in materialist, anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist praxis.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated admin assistant who shares our radical politics and values our commitment to anti-capitalism. The successful candidate will work directly with the Red Clinic and collaborate on an ad hoc basis with MHWI.
The successful candidate will need excellent organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise multiple pending tasks and work effectively when under time pressure. They will need to have computer literacy and an ability to take initiative at work. They will have a proven track record of working independently with only minimal supervision. They will be provided with on the job training and will have a degree of control over the kind of work they conduct. Knowledge of social media and second languages, especially Arabic, are desirable but not essential.
We’re looking for someone who is proactive and can help get the project up and running. The company is in the start-up phase, with all of the risks and freedom that implies. There are a number of unpaid contributors to the project with whom the successful candidate will collaborate closely. The project is poised to launch a clinical psychotherapeutic service. The key task of the successful candidate will be to facilitate the launch of that service, as well as helping to coordinate public events and a reading group.
